Case Study

A custom-made servery was one of the new additions for a staff restaurant at Kettleby Foods. The renovations at the 24-hour diner within the food production factory in Melton Mowbray took six weeks in Spring 2016.

The staff eatery, which accommodates up to 106 people, was still in use whilst our expert crew worked around employees needing to take their breaks. A temporary restaurant was created for 4 days while the old counter and flooring was removed and replaced. Through our expertise in design and project management, we came up with a design layout which met with our client’s satisfaction.

We then created and installed a new purpose built eight-and-a-half metre long hot and cold food servery counter, which included a soup counter, food warming cupboards, till points, hot drink units and soft drink dispensers. We also rehoused vending machines, enhancing the dining space, and a created a new microwave and staff refrigeration area. The installation also included new contemporary style bistro furniture including high and low benches, additional bistro tables and booth bench seating.

Our team also worked on fitting new doors, flooring and balustrading in the restaurant as well as recladding the restaurant and kitchen walls with mould resistant hygienic wall panel coverings to maintain the high standard of refurbishment achieved throughout. Other items included LED lighting and up-lighting and suspended ceiling features incorporating circular acoustic design panels, which help with noise reduction and help to disguise existing unsightly pipes and vents. Other additions included lowerator for loading plates vertically, bespoke tray collection points and ambient hot cupboards and custom cut granite worktops and walnut veneer cladding to the face and sides.

WorkBox director, Stuart Thacker, said: “This was an exciting project although challenging at times working around a live kitchen and we had to ensure staff safety was paramount. We are very pleased with the results and hope the staff will enjoy their new restaurant for many years to come.”
