Work has started this month for a Coventry law company moving to new premises this spring.
The WorkBox team are bringing office space to life at Band Hatton Button for more than 100 staff, incorporating reception/client areas which include meeting rooms, furniture, kitchens and toilets.
Our team designed the new layout which includes the construction of new walls and glass partitions in the new open plan building and an eye catching reception area with slate/living feature wall. The process also involved space planning with the creation of eight meeting rooms, new flooring, artwork walls and new furniture throughout.
Further work is being carried out in a second building to create a new boardroom, new kitchenette and a client waiting area. The project is expected to be completed before the summer.
Project Manager, Nicki Brotherston, said: “This is an exciting project for us to design and create a dynamic workspace for a valued client. We were given a blank canvas and have produced an office with room for expansion to be enjoyed for years to come.”
The Under 15s squad at Long Bennington needed a new home kit and WorkBox director Stuart Thacker was only too happy to oblige.
WorkBox formerly sponsored a Newark under 8s club who went on to win the league and this year, we were approached by Long Bennington Spartans manager, Dinos Patrinos. Currently in joint second place with a game in hand over the league leaders, Long Bennington are strong contenders for this season’s title.
Dinos said: “The boys love the new home kit and on behalf of the players and the members of the club, we would like to thank WorkBox for their sponsorship.”
He added: “Youth football offers a platform for children within local communities to develop friendships, to keep active and enjoy themselves. It’s generous sponsors like WorkBox that keep children off the Xbox!”
Stuart said: “Investing in the community is vital for local businesses such as ours. When you live and work in an area, it’s important to try and give something of value back. We are happy to lend our support and very proud that our company logo will be seen on the shirts of these boys’ week after week.”
BRINGING WOODEN FLOORS BACK TO LIFE
A natural wooden floor can be one of the most warm, inviting and durable flooring options for most rooms and hallways. From solid hardwood, parquet and even engineered wood, the choices are endless. But every wooden floor needs some TLC, especially when they have become tired and scuffed.
We were recently asked to carry out the restoration of a deteriorating wooden floor at a large Leicestershire academy school. The dining room floor was seen to be worn by years of use and protective layers had thinned and become discoloured through regular use.
Our specialists at WorkBox worked hard to restore this floor and successfully bring it back to life. It was sanded, treated and resealed through expertise and skill.
Project manager, Tom Beeson, said: “By using the right products and techniques, we have provided a new lease of life to the floor for a long time to come. The results are clear to see!”
Natural wood is very long-lasting and even if you think your floor needs to be ripped out and replaced, let us assure you that we can transform a tired scratched surface to good as new. Floors faded by sun damage can be revived and protected from the same thing happening again as well as spills and cleaning fluids.
Our methods and skilled experts will leave you with a beautiful new looking floor, that will last for many years. We have experience of restoring flooring including parquet, in homes, offices, schools, and much more. So you can pull up the rugs and carpets and let your wooden floors shine once more!
SIT AND STAND DESKING
You may have read in the news recently that standing at your desk reduces tiredness and boosts productivity. Scientists from the University of Leicester conducted trials with around 150 NHS staff members, over half of whom swapped their usual desks for sit-stand workstations.
The results of the study, which was published in the British Medical Journal, found people who went from relatively inactive work lives to standing more often reported feeling less tired and more engaged. It was also found staff suffered with fewer musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck issues.
The BMJ study revealed office workers are one of the most deskbound populations of workers, spending between 70 to 85 per cent of their time at work sitting down. A questionnaire also suggested employees who used the sit-stand desks were less anxious and said they felt an improved quality of life.
WorkBox director Stuart Thacker said: “We recognise the need for more flexible working, which is increasing in the UK workplace each year. The European influence has bridged across to the UK via company and user influence. In Scandinavian countries, most employers give staff the choice of a standard or a height adjustable desk when they start work.”
Over the past couple of years, height adjustable desks have become widely available from most UK furniture manufacturers, before which they had been considered as a specialist supply item. This has made them more affordable and are replacing standard desks on many fitout projects we carry out.
Stuart said: “Our customers are increasingly conscious of new ways of working and initiate discussions early on at the design stage of a project. Some of our customers are asking for height adjustable desks for a larger percentage of their staff and in some instances for all of the staff.”
The benefits don’t end there though. As well as being better for health, the desks are designed and shaped to match regular fixed desks so integrate easily within the office space ensuring continuity and clean lines.
Height adjustable desks such as the Rise range from Gresham are worth the investment. We are all different heights, so the adjustable legs allow desks to be flexible enough for every member of staff. At the push of a button, you can move between standing and sitting throughout the day, giving you the best of both worlds.
If you are considering making the switch, key advice would be to alternate between sitting and standing. If you are keen to switch to a standing desk, make it a gradual change, over several weeks and months. Standing for long periods of time can put pressure on the lower back, play havoc with varicose veins and give you tired and sore feet.
Also, wear comfortable shoes and try to stand on a rug as it will ease pressure on your feet and legs.
We would also advise you to take regular breaks to walk around and keep stretching throughout the day. Listen to music if you can. This will encourage you to have a little dance at your desk – all extra movement is beneficial!
If you’d like to find out more about how standing desks could work for your workplace, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
Nottingham Forest FC tasked us with a quick turnaround project to adapt and showcase two of the top-end boxes. The work was carried out during the recent international football break, with a short deadline of three weeks.
The project involved altering two executive boxes to make one larger room to accommodate 16 to 18 fans. We also reduced two entrance doors to one DDA compliant doorway, removed a raised floor making the new box level with the lounge area, removed a dividing partitioning and glass wall, new suspended ceiling and LED lights, as well as carrying out full re-decoration and artificial grass flooring.

Staff and pupils alike were happy with the lick of paint given and new flooring laid at their school by WorkBox over the summer holidays.
St James Primary School, in Solihull, asked us back to install a new staff kitchenette and carry out general decorating and lay new flooring after they were so pleased with our refurbishment of a toilet block last year.
Head of school, Sarah Deakin, said: “The members of your staff who were on site over the summer break worked really hard to ensure that everything was just as we wanted, and stepped up far beyond their remit in order to help get the school ready for the pupils on the first day.”
She added: “This is the second project that Workbox have worked on for us and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you. Please pass on my thanks to all those involved.”
Other school projects we completed during the summer holidays included a dining room floor refurbishment at Samworth Academy In Leicester. We also carried out a large-scale refurbishment of classrooms, reprographics, conference/training room, staff room and student services at Robert Smythe Academy in Market Harborough. The projects included a reconfiguration of space, the installation of new lighting, ceilings, internal decoration, laying new flooring and installing new doors.

The works saw us complete interior decoration, fitted flooring including carpet, vinyl and dance floor, electrics including LED lights, suspended ceilings, partitioning and doors. We also installed two bespoke reception desks and signage.
Outside, we erected a new disabled ramp with handrail to the new look main reception – which was of course painted in the famous Forest red!
All work was completed in time for the first game of the season at home kicking off against West Brom on August 7th.
