Channeling Positivity AP Free School Fit Out Nottingham Project brief to convert existing industrial unit into bespoke teaching environment in 3 weeks. The brief called initially for the construction of a large 36 metres by 7 metres high acoustic dividing jumbo partition to sub divide the working area into 2 separate phases. We designed and installed new teaching walls to all 1st floor classrooms, this included all new data feed points throughout, with wireless modems and all the required cabling was patched back to the newly installed 42U server in the freshly constructed server room. For aesthetics, both data and power cables were enclosed in dado trunking which was installed classroom to classroom, on both ground and first floor, the use of dado trunking allows for future data and power to be added easily. Future proofing was also carried to the old wiring, which was replaced with new, the existing lighting being stripped out and new low energy LED lights fitted, these lamps not only save energy they look nicer than the old fluorescent fittings.
A new teaching kitchen was required to be fitted in one of the ground floor offices with all the usual appliances and cabinets that you would expect to see, but again future proofing for the next phase we installed a 3 phase power supply which will easily cope with the demands when the kitchen gets refitted later in the year. All the internal doors were replaced with 30 minute fire doors with the stairwells having 60 minute doors and frames, on the first floor stairwell we created a 60 minute fire refuge point and continued with the containment into the loft space and installed a 60 minute fire curtain. Because the building had been vacant for a number of years a full chlorination of the internal water tanks and all associated plumbing was conducted to ensure that the water is safe to drink and free from any dangerous bugs.
With the project almost complete a full internal decoration was carried out, new flooring was specified and new carpets were laid. The timeframe for the project was tight to say the least, but having all the required skill sets in-house at workbox allowed for the school to open on time to the delight of the all!
